If Your Child is Sick… If your child is sick, PLEASE keep them home. I cannot reiterate this enough...especially given the current circumstances. Sending your child to school is not only difficult for them, but you are putting other children and myself at risk. I will have no problem sending them back home if I feel they are at risk and/or putting others at risk. Thank you for your understanding.
Arrival
If you are dropping off or picking up your child, please use the FRONT entrance of our school. Buses will drop off and pick up at the north entrance. For safety reasons we ask that no cars try to use this area. Please follow these guidelines to ensure the safety of all of our kids.
All students must be in the classroom by 8:05am. Children who arrive after 8:10am will be marked tardy. Thank you for your help getting your child to school on time.
Before school
Adult supervision of the playgrounds begins at 7:50am. Please do not drop your students off before this time. Children are required to use the playground and not enter the building unless they are eating breakfast. These students are to stay in the assigned area (no wondering halls, etc).
Dismissal
If your child is riding the bus, please come prepared with their bus number and bus stop.
If your child will be picked up from school I will require information about who is authorized to do so.
If any of your child's transportation information ever changes please let me know as soon as possible. I check my email throughout the day. This is the best way to let me know of after school changes, etc. I will always do my best to respond.
You can also call the CES office and let them know before 2:00pm and they will make sure I get the message. Students are dismissed from the classroom at 2:45pm.
Breakfast
Breakfast begins each morning at 7:50am. Cost of breakfast is $1.75. As always, breakfast is optional.
Lunch
Lunch for 1st grade will be from 10:55-11:20am. School lunch is $2.90, and any amount of money may be placed upon your child's lunch credit account at anytime. Please use the MyBucks online system to add money. Click HERE for that link. Students have lunch ID numbers at the beginning of the year with which they access their account.
If your child comes home with a smily stamp on his/her hand it means that they need to bring more lunch money for their account.
Drinks can be purchased for $0.50/each
Unfortunately, due to safety protocols, you are not allowed to eat lunch with your child this year. So sorry!
Big 5
As the weather transitions to cooler temperatures please note your child's needs for appropriate outerwear.
When we reach deep autumn, winter, and certainly often into our mountain spring, your child will need to come to school wearing the "BIG 5".
Coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves = The BIG 5
Please LABEL all clothing! Our Lost and Found gets very full by the end of the winter and labeling clothes certainly helps with this issue.
Typically, unless the temperature goes below 0 degrees F, we go outside for recess---therefore, the Big 5 is VERY important!
Colter Cougar T-shirts
Colter Cougar shirts are asked to be worn on Fridays! Let's show some school pride!
Box Tops
Please send in Box Tops with your children to raise money for our school. We have a box located in our classroom that the PTO collects each month. The class that brings the most each month wins a prize!
Medications
The school nurse will administer all medications. Please contact the nurse if your child is to be given any medicine during school hours. If your child has asthma, you may want to consider leaving a spare inhaler with the nurse. Do not send medicine in your child's book bag. This includes drops or "sore throat lollipops".
Snacks
Our classroom has an afternoon snack. Students can bring their own snacks, or choose from the fruit/vegetable of the day. CES has, once again, received a fresh fruit/veggie grant, so I will always have something healthy for the kids (ie: apples, bananas, oranges, etc.). I strongly urge parents to send a snack(s) everyday just in case, as children do not always like the fruit/veggie option. Healthy snacks are preferred and candy/chocolate are notallowed. Some ideas for snacks are: granola bars, goldfish, graham crackers, veggies, fruits, trail mix, pretzels, yogurt, etc.
Volunteers
Unfortunately, due to current health concerns, parents will not be able to volunteer this school year. I WILL, however, reach out for help regarding holiday parties. Thank you so much in advance!
Star of the Week
Our Star of the Week will take home an "All About Me" poster on Friday that will be completed at home and brought back to school on Monday. The student will get to present his/her poster to the class and their poster will be hung up for all to see! Each "Star of the Week" may also bring something for Show and Tell on Monday (this is optional).
